Moun fou

The opposite of curiosity is indifference.
Our struggle begins when we listen to and observe our different forms of existence. Here, we dance between the inner and the outer, confronting our styles, engaging in a struggle from which we will not emerge unscathed. The body and the city: both battlefields.
Moun Fou gives a voice to the “voiceless”, to those excluded from public debate. Our festive and poetic performances in the heart of the city use the skills and knowledge of each actor to create a common work. Based on actors’ personal stories, on ritual song and liberating dance, Moun fou attempts to transition from the intimate to the universal.
Moun Fou is the result of a co-creation project carried out over two years. This took place in three phases, establishing a protocol that can be repeated :
ACT I: IMMERSE
This preliminary phase began in September 2018. Our artistic team immersed itself in networks linked to mental health and extreme poverty in Marseille. The team followed professionals and volunteers in the field, and developed new viewpoints on public space, establishing precious longterm relationships.
ACT II: EXPERIMENT
This phase of immersion took place in 2019 and was accompanied by a series of five “experiments”: five events designed and carried out in public spaces.
Set up with the people directly concerned, we explored real and complex situations in-depth (funerals of people without family and people living on the street, cohabitation between homeless people with mental health problems and residents of a working-class neighbourhood, conflicts between shopkeepers and people living in extreme poverty, etc.). These situations were approached through artistic, immersive experiences, and created places for dialogue between people with mental health problems and other citizens of Marseille.
ACT III: CREATE, TOGETHER
The collective desire generated by this artistic adventure led to the creation of Act III of Moun Fou, an inclusive performance work, the design and production of which are based on the experiential knowledge of each of the actors. This work creates a space where individual stories are part of collective thought process, a “wider assembly”.
