YOUTH ! :: An Urban tale for skateparks ::
One evening, in a deserted area not far from a skatepark, we meet Maimie, a young girl who has jumped out the window and wandered so far from home that she no longer remembers where she is from.
We follow her to meet Clo, Peter, Salomon, and a gang of kids busy “playing birds”, dreaming of their city of tomorrow.
Maimie takes us on a journey through the night where her younger self meets the woman she is destined to become.
Led by five actors, including two female skateboarders, two male skateboarders, and a musician, the show leads us to question the rites of passage between childhood and adulthood and the space we give to children in our cities, and in everyday life in general.
The story unfolds around the main cast and an amateur chorus of a dozen young skateboarders, teenagers, and young adults. The characters are inspired by J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens.
Here, several narrative forms intertwine, between realism and magic.
The audience is invited to move around the skatepark, spectators can sit, stand, and move around as they wish during the scenes.
Skateboarding, the art of risk and movement, constitutes a large part of the choreographic material of the show.
Winner of the national Cnarep grant ‘Hors Cadre’, Youth is not a crime! is currently in production and is still looking for partners (co-production, residency, pre-purchase).
