Through our many years of experience, we have created a wide variety of protocols and for our work. The tools have helped us to discover et work within each city, each neighborhood, each region. It is this expertise that we bruing to the table when we collaborate with our partners with the common aim of developing artistic forms that involve local residents. Here, we explore places as if they were homes, listening to each place’s complexities and aspirations, skills and desires, in order to bring to life the most authentic and contemporary work.

The citizen’s choir: alterity, the sacred and the political

Like the concentric circles that structure Haitian voodoo ceremonies, our artistic forms unite the actors center stage, surrounded by a chorus of insiders who know the secrets of our process, and then the audience. These sacred rituals fuel our theatrical forms in terms of shape, structure, rhythm and content.

Arriving at each new place, our first act is to organize a community choir. This choir usually unites people from all walks of life, and many are already associated with existing choirs or groups within the community.

The choir is invited to learn our repertoire of traditional songs that never fail to connect people. The choir becomes part of the show, it makes the town its own, playing with places of physical and symbolic meaning moving through soundscapes and voices, that slide from the sacred to the political. For us, theatre must regain its primary function as a space to learn, to meet, to converse, to protest.

Carnivals and Festivals

Inspired by the Haitian rara tradition and its transgressive parades through the city, our theatre company has always seen carnival as a “a festival by and for the people”. In stark contrast to many soulless parades, we expand upon the traditions of carnival in different ways: taking over and closing off neighborhoods, large-scale celebrations with community cooking projects, massive street feasts, bands and games.

The company invites locals to get involved, individually or collectively, we set-up frameworks for knowledge sharing, to shed light on the many hidden talents within each community,

Food, Kitchens and Banquets

We love bringing food to the heart of the theater: this allows us to bring audiences together who rarely interact in everyday life. We have been working on culinary projects for many years, and today, through these experiences we have worked with many different people and places: hospitality schools, high schools, commercial and home kitchens, restaurants, community cafés, teams of professional chefs from the local area, large groups of volunteers… This expertise allows us to quickly set up pop-up kitchens in public spaces that are always full of joy and optimism. We love orchestrating these epic experiences that showcase people’s culinary traditions and knowledge, that feed body and mind.
