Mzwandile Buthelezi, The texture of silence

In this loud and tumultous period of history Orchestres sets out to explore the mysteries of silence.
Silence and the city. What does silence mean to each of us? What do we associate silence with? How is it created and how does it spread? How do we bring it about, share it, and experience it together? What makes silence both a disturbing anomaly and a refuge?

To explore its secrets, we are putting together an artistic team comprised of deaf and hearing artists, with the aim of guiding each other through our diverse realities, seeking common ground, exchanging our respective worlds and feelings, experimenting in public space together, and creating a work that transcends us all.

2025 is a phase of immersion and cross-disciplinary research, particularly through various practices and experiences of deaf culture (LSF, Chansigne, Visual Vernacular, Vusique, Deaf Music, etc.), team building, and experiments in public space.
